BIOGRAPHY
Born in Egypt, started in the age of 12 to play music – Oud and Guitar.
During studying German linguistics – Germanistik- at Ain Shams University, he studied classic music at the Arabic music academy in Cairo. He represented the University in different festivals and won a prize for The Best Oud Player in 1985 and 1986.
By the end of 1986 started Moving to Austria and Germany, where he studied Egyptology and ethnology at Heidelberg University.
The first step in his professional carrier was 1986 at Al Tali2aa Theatre Cairo with the Egyptian Composer Waguih Aziz and Reg. Maher Selim .
The second Step in his professional carrier was 1994 with the folklore group Salamat in Berlin Germany with Nubian , Sudanese and Egyptian musicians like Salma – Sudan , Mitqal - father of the Egyptian folklore - He played with salamat many years between France, Spain, England and Germany.
Between 1994-1997 he joined many Afro Egyptian and Arabic groups in Europe e.g. El Wafir / Jaume Bosser Madrid, Said Balaha, Mohamed Askari and Nasser Kilada in Berlin.
The third step was 1997 in Berlin with Hossam Shaker and founding new form of the Egyptian group Rahalah, with different concerts, workshops in Spain , Germany and Egypt . Hossam Shaker played a great role in his professional carrier and was like his mentor, who leads him through the scene in Cairo. Basem still playing occasionally with Rahalah Hossam Shaker during his visits to Egypt.
1999 he joined Sharkiat Fathy Salama - Grammy award winner 2005 – concerts in Cairo opera house, El Qalaa Festival and Alexandria.
2000 joined Mohamed Mounir Band and played with Mounir Concerts in Morocco , Berlin and other European cities.
2000 formed with the known German pianist Matthias Frey and former BAP Saxophonist Büdi Siebert an oriental jazz Trio with Concerts in Germany and Egypt.
2001 working as music consultant for Arabic labels like Free Music Egypt Nassr Mahrous coordinated the production of Sherin Abdelwahab and Mohamed Mohey.
2001 working with the German Nobel prize holder for literature Günter Grass , Sigune von Osten and Gunter Baby Sommer – Novemberland in Mainz , Dresden and Leipzig recorded by HR3.
2002 Consultant for German label music of one world with Lothar Krell.
2003 Consultant, music coordination and musician for the Arabic TV channel AL JAZEERA together with Steffen Kahles and Christoph Blaser.
2004 Consultant and coordination, music recherché for STEINBERG wizoo
together with Lothar Krell producing VST Darbuka.
